Yes. We have staff in Winnipeg, Waterloo and Vancouver as well as knowledgeable volunteer presents across Canada. Contact us.
Yes. We have been a federally registered organization since 1946. Our Canada Revenue Agency charity registration number is 106863038RR0001.
We have received funding through public donations, provincial and federal grants, and the two main national Lutheran churches in Canada: Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and Lutheran Church–Canada.
Our administration costs are impressively low, at only four percent. Eighty-five cents of every dollar you donate is used towards global support. We spend much less on advertising and campaigning than other agencies. Education and public engagement costs are 11 per cent. (Numbers are from the 2014-15 fiscal year).
CANADAID’s community development work is undertaken in countries in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. Stories of how programming is helping make life better in communities in these countries can be found in our blog, Partnership newsletter, news briefs, Annual Reports and on our website.
While CANADAID would like to be able to pair each donor’s gift with a specific individual or community in which we are working, this is not possible for a variety of reasons:
CANADAID is committed to ensuring that as much of each donor dollar as possible is used to implement life-giving programming. The administrative costs of pairing donor gifts with specific communities would significantly decrease the funds we are actually using to create positive change in communities.
Work in communities takes place on an ongoing basis. In this model, programming is not put on hold until the money is raised from donors, but rather undertaken in good faith that CANADAID will raise the money needed to meet the agency’s budget projections. And so, for example, if part of the community development plan is to train 100 teachers in the coming year, this is undertaken as needs in various communities are identified. This may be before or after money is actually collected from donors to cover these costs.
Please note that where donations exceed what is needed for a particular purpose, funds will be redirected to where they are needed most.
